This is my brief 149 word story for the Spring Fling writing contest. You can read the full rules here. I promise I’m not really as grumpy about Spring as my story my suggests, although I do suffer from awful seasonal allergies and my heart goes out to everyone sniffling and sneezing their way through this time of year.

Season of Sneezes
by Erin Buhr
It is springtime.
The season of flowers blooming,
Cheerful bees buzzing,
beautiful butterflies fluttering in the –
ah…
ah…
CHOO!
Excuse me.
Where was I….? Oh!
Magnificent Spring is here.
The season of gentle showers,
Rainbow spotting,
Puddle stomping and – and –
Ah…
Ah…
CHOO!
Pardon me.
Let’s try again.
Spring has sprung.
It is time for chicks to hatch,
Bunnies to bounce,
Time for –
Ah…
Ah…
CHOO!
Sneezing.
That’s what it’s actually time for.
It’s the season of snuffy noses,
itchy eyes,
and sneezing.
It is not the magical season of
Flowers and rainbows
or – ACHOO – adorable babies,
It is the season for pollen,
and mold,
and sneezing.
So hunker down
with your boxes of tissues,
eye drops, and nasal sprays.
Weather the storm of cheerful,
rainbow colored enthusiasm.
Soon spring will be pass
and we can celebrate summer,
The season of vacations,
and beach days,
and…
Sunburn.
